Iron Worker (Emporia Virginia)

Job Summary

Performs duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks, working as part of a crew.

Job Functions

• Supports the Company's safety and core values.
• Represents the Company with high moral standards and adherence to the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
• Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
• Signals workers operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
• Directs and performs using tag line (rope), fixtures, and parts for installation.
• Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel using plumb bob and level.
• Bolds-up and connects Structural Steel Iron and I-beams.
• Cuts, fits, and fabricates all kinds of structural steel iron.
• Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action.
• Performs all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
• Ability to bold-up and connect Structural Steel Iron and I-beams.
• Ability to cut, fit, and fabricate all kinds of structural steel iron.
• Good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs.
• Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off of platforms up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
• Must be able to complete NCCER certification for your craft.
• Must be able to complete Matrix Service Safety training and Client / Site specific training.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the DISA drug testing program.

Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting for extended periods.
• Talking and hearing to communicate.
• Using arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50lbs.
• Working at heights, climbing ladders and stairways, and working off of platforms up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
• Using vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
• Working outside in the elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
• Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
