About the Role

The IRA/Investment Specialist manages and maintains the Lake Trust IRA program and various specialty accounts. They advise and deepen members' relationships by offering other products and services, coordinate with Financial Life Planning regarding IRAs and investments, and assist in training and supporting Onstage staff with member needs concerning IRAs, CDs, trusts, and other specialty accounts. The role also ensures compliance with deposit disclosures by working closely with Compliance & Legal areas and handles tax reporting forms for members and the IRS.

Responsibilities

  • Validate and quality-check IRA work performed by Onstage staff and provide feedback as needed.
  • Provide phone support for Onstage staff on IRAs and specialty accounts (trusts, conservatorships, representative payee, estate accounts).
  • Compile and conduct IRA training updates for Onstage staff and new hires as requested by Learning & Development.
  • Attend IRA webinars/seminars to stay updated on compliance and rule changes.
  • Respond to HelpDesk, phone calls, and email requests submitted by staff.
  • Coordinate with the IS area to validate tax reporting for members and the IRS.
  • Develop, update, maintain, and communicate IRA procedures to Onstage staff, ensuring updates are reflected in Currents.
  • Assist members by phone and process manual IRA required distributions that cannot be done electronically.
  • Review Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) to ensure they are completed timely and by IRS deadlines.
  • Ensure all tax reporting documents are sent to members and the IRS by defined dates.
  • Coordinate with Financial Life Planning to provide seamless services to members and attend seminars to represent the credit union onsite when possible.
  • Assist in updating information for Onstage staff in collaboration with Financial Life Planning.
  • Coordinate with the Member Service department to ensure coverage for department duties across split schedules and assist other departments (Mail Services, Treasury Support) as needed.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and participate in testing.
  • Serve on various teams (e.g., MS Procedures Team, Deceased Team) and participate in projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties within the Member Service area as requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of similar or related experience with a financial institution.
  • IRA and investment knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to support a strong member service-focused and teamwork culture.
