About the Role

As a Physical Therapist, you play a vital role in helping patients regain strength, restore mobility, and rebuild confidence following illness, injury, or surgery. Working closely with physicians and the care team, you’ll assess each patient’s needs and create personalized therapy plans designed around meaningful goals, active engagement, and exceptional patient outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Evaluating patient abilities and developing personalized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the care team
  • Delivering evidence-based interventions that restore movement, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life
  • Monitoring progress, refining therapy plans, and ensuring accurate, timely documentation of outcomes
  • Educating patients and families on exercise programs, adaptive techniques, and safe practices that promote independence
  • Collaborating across disciplines to ensure cohesive, patient-centered care and smooth transitions throughout recovery
  • Leading by example—mentoring therapy assistants or students while upholding HCA Healthcare’s values of excellence, compassion, and integrity
  • Creating an environment and culture that enables the Rehabilitation Department to fulfill the mission of the hospital and meet or exceed its goals
  • Providing input into strategic development initiatives and implementing the Rehabilitation Department’s strategic plan
  • Ensuring the financial viability of the Rehabilitation Department by coordinating accurate and timely billing and clinical information
  • Developing and striving for achievement of financial objectives, including implementing budgetary guidelines
  • Supporting the Therapy Services Manager in managing department resources ethically and viably
  • Providing input for negotiating rehabilitation-specific rates in payment structures/contracts
  • Collaborating with the Medical Director and clinical staff to develop quality rehabilitation programming that meets market needs
  • Coordinating with rehabilitation counterparts and ensuring appropriate resources to support programs, services, and staffing levels
  • Implementing operations and processes to maintain uniform performance of rehabilitation care, including documentation
  • Providing a safe, secure, and infection/hazard-free environment
  • Supporting the Therapy Services Manager in developing, implementing, and monitoring the quality management plan
  • Participating in interdepartmental performance-improvement and customer satisfaction activities
  • Demonstrating high ethical standards in customer service through interactions with patients, families, coworkers, and others
  • Creating a high-quality, professional clinical environment to facilitate recruitment of qualified staff
  • Performing job functions at an acceptable level while ensuring patient dignity and respecting patient values
  • Assessing and reassessing patient needs with proper documentation
  • Communicating patient needs effectively and providing on-site assessments for potential patients
  • Consulting with the Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and consultations
  • Developing backup systems to handle calls when unavailable and ensuring calls are appropriately managed 24/7
  • Actively participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Communicating payer needs/requirements to the physician, treatment team, patient, and family in a timely manner
  • Providing ongoing education to patients and families as needed
  • Coordinating the admission process to the Rehabilitation Unit and communicating pertinent information to all involved parties
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and others
  • Following up on potential admissions to determine reasons for non-admission and assisting in alternative placement recommendations
  • Communicating results and trends to supervisors and providing feedback on concerns, improvements, or changes
  • Identifying areas needing improvement and utilizing the facility performance process
  • Actively participating in a comprehensive program evaluation system
  • Proposing new policies and procedures to improve the admission process for patients
  • Serving as an educational resource on rehabilitation issues to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and others
  • Ensuring the program meets all local, state, and TJC regulatory standards
  • Representing the Rehabilitation Department in appropriate hospital committees

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physical Therapy
  • State licensure
  • BLS certification
  • Direct rehab experience; one year or more preferred, involving extensive knowledge of rehab/criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional appearance
  • Experience in providing educational programs
