About the role
The Senior Software Engineer plays a crucial role in full-stack software engineering for Alaska Airlines (AS) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA). They work closely with product owners, designers, and other engineers to deliver business value iteratively. This role requires solving complex technology and business problems with innovative methods and ensuring high-quality software delivery.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert in full-stack engineering on a scrum delivery team.
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, and other engineers to deliver business value on an iterative basis.
- Coach and influence team members on best practices and emerging technologies.
- Solve complex technology and business problems with new and creative methods.
- Architect, engineer, test, deploy, and support highly scalable and maintainable complex, end-to-end custom software applications.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality software by writing clean code and utilizing pair programming, test-driven development (TDD), and continuous integration.
- Engage in the technology industry, networks, and understand how evolving technologies can benefit the organization.
- Influence cross-functional teams and partner with other disciplines to develop strategy.
- Develop a solid understanding of the team's guest experience, business, and systems.
Requirements
- 4 years of experience in software engineering, or related area.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Computer Science or a related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- Experience in Test Automation, Utilizing cloud computing, Acting as a software engineer building custom, high scale, n-tier applications using object-oriented languages, Developing web or mobile applications using modern technologies, Utilizing appropriate design patterns to create clean, maintainable, and performant code, Interacting with Git version control to maintain organization and logging of codebase changes, Performing TDD, unit testing, pair programming, and other XP techniques, Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability introducing new ideas and technologies to communities of developers, High degree of professionalism and customer service orientation, Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with a variety of teams, Minimum age of 18, Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Experience
- Building high-scaled distributed systems running in cloud environments.
- Experience building and deploying to Kubernetes environments.
- Experience with DevOps practices and supporting tools.
- Experience in agile/lean development methodologies.
- Experience with .Net WebAPI and .Net Core.
- Experience with design patterns and/or SOLID principle.
- Experience in using generative AI coding tools.
- Experience with mobile iOS development.

Pay & Benefits
Salary Range: $117,700 - $176,550 / year
Salary Details: Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees.
