Investment Stewardship Analyst

About the role

Active Ownership plays several important roles in the success of Voya IM’s ability to help clients meet their investment goals and to contribute to Voya’s responsible investment program. Each year, the team researches and votes many thousands of public company shareholder meetings and conducts engagement meetings with many portfolio companies on behalf of Voya mutual funds’ shareholders and institutional investors’ accounts. Active ownership gives clients a voice in the governance of their portfolio companies, addressing issues currently in the news at companies around the world. In addition to engaging with public companies and voting proxies, the team provides active ownership expertise to stakeholders across Voya, collaborates with various departments to meet clients’ expectations, and oversees service providers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials for investment analysts, proxy committees, and mutual fund boards of directors.
• Prepare legal documents such as foreign market Powers of Attorney and EDGAR filings (Form N-PX).
• Review corporate action and security lending activity and recalls.
• Assemble and process research materials and account holdings for voting analysis and execution.
• Ensure accounts and ballots are voted accurately, in accordance with policy and before applicable meeting cut-off dates; engage investment analysts for vote recommendations as needed.
• Assist in developing quarterly and ad-hoc materials for proxy voting committees and mutual fund boards of directors.
• Collaborate with the Responsible Investment and Thematic Research team to improve processes, research companies, source relevant data, and support relevant projects.
• Work with client service, compliance, and the RFP team to respond to active ownership-related client inquiries, reporting requests, and requests for activity and outcomes.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in business finance, economics, sustainability or another relevant field, or equivalent experience such as investment stewardship, public policy, equity research and analysis, financial services, or specialized client-facing roles.
• 3+ years of active ownership-related experience.
• Strong interest in corporate governance, sustainability, corporate strategy, public policy, and financial performance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and projects in a fast-paced, deadline- and compliance-driven work environment.
• Highly detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
• Strong work ethic.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and function in a small team environment.
• Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and external parties.
• Proactive approach to completing tasks and projects; ability to uncover issues and use superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills to find solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft products, Adobe, and SharePoint.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 – $120,000 USD. Voya also offers incentive opportunities (annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on role and performance objectives. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, education, licensure, skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
