Investment Lead

About the role

This role is on the Intercept team, which is part of Stripe's broader collection of public goods initiatives, including Frontier. Intercept is a $500M philanthropic initiative that aims to radically reduce the burden of respiratory infections, and eventually eliminate them altogether. The team focuses on two main areas: air-cleaning technologies (ACTs) and broad-spectrum preventatives (BSPs). The goal is to advance 2+ BSP products through Phase 2, using grants and investments to meet the target product profile.

Initially, this role will build internal investment processes, develop the investment thesis, and establish the investment function. Over time, it will focus on sourcing, diligencing, and executing equity or grant investments in companies with promising BSPs. The role also includes portfolio management to remove bottlenecks and accelerate timelines.

Responsibilities

• Expand the pipeline of candidates by proactively engaging networks (researchers, investors, founders, funders) and managing referral channels (open RFP, referrals).
• Own projects through diligence and transaction execution, evaluating science quality, development plans, team fit, and driving the investment or grantmaking process.
• Develop points of view on technologies, contributing to a POV for the 5-10 most promising approaches (e.g., siRNA, T-cell vaccines) and identifying key 'gating datapoints' for decision-making.
• Build and maintain the CRM to systematically capture and track projects.
• Support portfolio projects and accelerate their progress post-investment by addressing bottlenecks and mapping demand-side challenges (regulatory, clinical, adoption).
• Future growth opportunities include leading investments independently and shaping capital deployment strategies.

Requirements

• MD/PhD in immunology or infectious disease with 2+ years of investing, BD/partnering, or grantmaking experience, or 5+ years of biotech investor experience in immunology or infectious disease at a VC fund.
• Experience with portfolio management, including portfolio construction and post-award management.
• Ability to translate scientific diligence into strategic investment recommendations and a coherent capital deployment view.
• Product development experience (or broad exposure via investing/supporting companies).
• Project management experience from launch to completion, with a hands-on, action-oriented approach.
• Self-directed, diligent, fast learner, excellent communicator, and highly action-oriented.
• Compelled by the mission to reduce the burden of respiratory viruses.

Preferred Qualifications

• Public health, global health, or biosecurity experience.
• MBA or MPH degrees.
• Experience with issuing non-dilutive funding or grant programs.

Schedule

This role is available either in an office or as a remote position (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

• In-office expectations: Office-assigned employees spend at least 50% of their time in a local office or with users.
• Remote expectations: Remote employees work from home regularly and may attend office events as needed. Stripe does not cover relocation costs for remote roles.

Pay and Benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $200,000 - $300,000. For sales roles, this range represents On Target Earnings (OTE), including base salary and commissions/bonuses. The final range will be narrowed based on experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants outside the US may request location-specific salary ranges during the interview process.
