Investment Banking Associate - Capital Structure Advisory
Guggenheim Securities’ Capital Structure Advisory Group is a leading advisor to companies, investors and other stakeholders navigating complex financial situations and financial distress. The group is a critically important strategic initiative for Guggenheim Securities, formed following the 2018 acquisition of Millstein & Co., a premier advisor in special situations involving financial distress. Associates work in small client teams on major liability management, restructuring, and financing assignments, including both Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court transactions. The role offers meaningful exposure to senior bankers and client representatives, with opportunities to develop financial, analytical, and communication skills in a highly visible and complex environment. Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day project management and execution on advisory and financing transactions, including developing and overseeing detailed financial and accounting analyses.
- Perform due diligence of companies, including generating and managing financial and operational diligence requests, conducting site tours, and discussing findings with management and employees.
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and company-specific information (e.g., liquidity, financial metrics, capital structure, and credit documents) to identify potential client solutions.
- Review accounting and financial records to advise clients on financial projections; prepare, review, and participate in client presentations.
- Integrate strategic ideas from analyses, forecasts, business plans, and research into stakeholder presentations.
- Contribute to deal pitches, including idea generation, research, and analysis of restructuring and financing opportunities.
- Build and maintain client relationships through ongoing engagement and demonstration of financial and industry knowledge.
- Manage and develop junior staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum requirement).
- 3+ years of experience in investment banking, accounting, consulting, private equity, hedge funds, or corporate finance.
- Core modeling and valuation experience in a professional setting.
- SIE Exam, Series 79, and Series 63 must be acquired within 150 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at a restructuring, workout, or leveraged finance group.
- High level of maturity and ability to work in teams interfacing with top executives and senior management.
- Highly organized with the initiative to work with limited supervision.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Effective process management abilities.
Schedule
This role is expected to be in the New York office at least 4 days per week.
Pay
Annual base salary between $175,000 and $200,000. The range reflects base salary only, and total compensation may include additional components such as incentive compensation. Actual base salaries may vary depending on factors such as location and experience.
