Investigator II

About the role

The Dekalb County Solicitor-General's Office is hiring an Investigator II to lead and coordinate daily work activities, support Assistant Solicitors with investigations and trial preparation, and manage witness-related duties for felony cases.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the daily work activities of assigned staff.
• Confer with supervisors to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities.
• Organize tasks to ensure assigned work is completed.
• Monitor work in progress and inspect completed work.
• Assist co-workers with complex or problematic situations and provide technical expertise.
• Assist with training staff on department policies and procedures.
• Assist with supervision by reporting employee concerns and providing input on disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
• Assist assigned Assistant Solicitors with investigations and trial preparation.
• Review case files and identify necessary investigative tasks.
• Draft and execute search warrants and court orders for evidence.
• Collect, secure, and analyze evidence while maintaining proper chain of custody.
• Assist with interviewing victims and witnesses.
• Survey, photograph, and sketch crime scenes.
• Use investigative tools, resources, and programs to obtain necessary information.
• Compile witness lists and consult with Assistant Solicitors regarding trial strategies.
• Testify in court as required.
• Identify, locate, and serve subpoenas to complainants, suspects, victims, and witnesses involved in felony cases.
• Ensure necessary individuals appear in court.
• Research and create witness files and work to obtain full victim/witness cooperation.
• Coordinate witness accommodations, including travel and lodging.
• Draft material witness warrants as needed.
• Coordinate with fugitive units to apprehend witnesses when necessary.
• Coordinate witness schedules for court appearances.
• Transport and provide security for attorneys, victims, victim advocates, and witnesses.
• Escort attorneys during interviews and crime scene visits.
• Provide courtroom security.
• Escort attorneys, victims, advocates, and witnesses to and from trial.

Requirements

• Required certification: Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification, specifically Peace Officer Basic Law Enforcement.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminology or criminal justice required; two years of experience in investigation, law enforcement, criminology, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
