Investigator - Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigating and prosecuting complicated (sometimes high-profile) physical and sexual abuse cases
  • Reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured and/or submitted to the GBI, properly documented, and organized for prosecution
  • Interviewing lay, expert and law enforcement witnesses
  • Advising law enforcement officers in the handling of complex criminal investigations
  • Cooking with Assistant District Attorneys, Victim Advocates and other team members in the review of case files to determine what investigation is needed
  • Identifying and locating victims and witnesses that are needed for prosecution of the case
  • Participating in the prosecution of cases by attending court, coordinating with victims and witnesses regarding their testimony, preparing exhibits for court, testifying at Grand Jury and possibly during trial regarding investigative actions and findings

Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field; five years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Previous experience working in a prosecutor’s office is preferred.
  • Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: The ideal candidate must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification.; possesses a minimum of five (5) years of investigative experience with an emphasis in domestic violence and sexual assault. Must be able to multitask and work under occasional stressful time constraints.

Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check.
