Investigator
The New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC) is a regulatory and law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over the trade waste industry and the City’s public wholesale markets. Businesses seeking to operate in these industries within the City of New York must, by law, apply to BIC and be approved by BIC for the requisite license or registration. BIC’s goals include: to keep industries free of organized crime and other forms of corruption; to ensure that regulated businesses are able to compete fairly; that customers receive equitable treatment, and that regulated businesses do not present a harm to public safety and conduct their affairs with honesty and integrity.

- Interviewing witnesses, suspects, and customers
- Preparing investigative reports
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s education department or a recognized accrediting organization
- Two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing code enforcement inspection, investigation, or law enforcement functions or Special Patrolman Status
- Must be found qualified to serve as a Special Patrolman (at least 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the City of New York at time of designation)
- A motor vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York (must be maintained for the duration of employment)
A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience may substitute for the above. College education may replace one year of the required experience on the basis of 60 semester credits, including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in police science and/or criminal justice, but all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one year of the specified experience.
To be eligible for placement to Assignment Levels II or III, individuals must have at least one year of experience in Assignment I.

- Strong law enforcement experience
- Experience investigating organized crime
- Experience investigating complex and confidential investigations, including racketeering, illegal business activities, and regulatory violations
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-motivated
- Proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and conducting open-source searches
- Ability to work various shifts and hours as required

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
Pay
$59,359.00 – $95,392.00
