This role is for a journalist who proactively uncovers stories others miss, drives community impact, and delivers compelling, multi-platform narratives.
Responsibilities
- Own investigative projects: Dig deep into complex issues (e.g., government accountability, consumer advocacy) and produce compelling, multi-platform narratives.
- Contribute daily: Provide investigative updates, enterprise "quick turns," or digital-first content while managing long-term deep dives.
- Drive digital engagement: Build digital-first experiences using interactive elements, social video, and web-exclusive deep dives—not just repurposing broadcast content.
- Cultivate sources: Develop and maintain a robust network of trusted sources and whistleblowers.
- Respond to breaking news: Jump in with authority when major stories break, balancing long-form work with urgent coverage.
- Collaborate for impact: Work closely with legal, producers, and digital teams to ensure investigations are legally sound and widely distributed.
- Master technical skills: Shoot, write, and edit your own content (including proficiency with EDIUS) to maintain creative control.
- Uphold journalistic integrity: Maintain the highest standards of accuracy, ethics, and editorial judgment in all work.
Requirements
- Self-starter mindset: Proactively pitch and pursue stories without waiting for assignments.
- Relentless curiosity: Persistently ask "why" and "how" to uncover the truth.
- Digital-first fluency: Understand that broadcast is one part of a story’s lifecycle across social, web, and streaming platforms.
- Technical versatility: Comfortably operate field gear and edit under pressure without sacrificing quality.
- Media law expertise: Deep understanding of legal boundaries and a commitment to accuracy.
- Urgency and empathy: Handle sensitive subjects with care while maintaining a "get it first" spirit.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Outstanding writing skills and dynamic live presence.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends, overnights, or extended hours during breaking news or severe weather.
- Team-oriented attitude: Collaborative, positive, and "can-do" approach to newsroom dynamics.
- Journalism degree or related field, with a reel demonstrating versatility.
- Minimum 3 years of reporting experience (MVR check required).
