About the role

An Investigative Intern in IAD will assist investigative staff under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist investigative staff in managing caseloads involving complaints of employee misconduct, unlicensed contractors, and conducting employee background investigations.
  • Receive, draft, and report complaints from the general public, 311, Departmental employees, and referrals from various government agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of fact-finding and corrective interviews of departmental employees.
  • Write lengthy narrative reports.
  • Intake and process record requests from the public.
  • Coordinate with the five Borough Offices to schedule the release of records.
  • Research property information in the Buildings Information System.
  • Perform data entry of all requests.
  • Assist Investigative staff with field work, including retrieval of documents from various locations.
  • Draft memorandums.
  • Answer telephones and respond to in-person inquiries.
  • Perform typing, filing, and related clerical duties.
  • Handle certain analytical functions.
  • Work on special projects and tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of IAD.

Schedule

  • Up to 17 hours/week when school is in session.
  • Up to 35 hours/week during school break.

When working a 35 hour/week schedule, this position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.

Pay

  • Entering Freshmen through completion of Sophomore year: $17.50 per hour.
  • Entering Junior through completion of Senior year: $17.75 per hour.
  • Graduate level: $18.00 per hour.

Requirements

For Assignment Level I:

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.

Preferred Skills

  • Majors: Law, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
