Inventory Specialist
About the Role
Execute, monitor, and train inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including both front end and pharmacy. Support pharmacy inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. Champion On-Shelf Availability and manage all in-store inventory processes such as receiving, counting, pricing, and returns. Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications impacting front end and pharmacy on-hand balances and pricing. Execute and maintain front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques, and file claims for warehouse and vendor overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods, including prescription drugs.
In designated stores, open and close the store in the absence of store management, including required systems start-ups, cash handling, cashier responsibilities, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for the business day.
Responsibilities
- Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience when serving as the leader on duty.
- Model and share customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes, including creating, reviewing, and receiving orders.
- Scan in all deliveries while the vendor is still in the store, including common carrier deliveries. Focus on One Box receiving and take appropriate action for undelivered or inaccurate orders.
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist-in-charge, verify all pharmacy shipments, complete postings of pharmacy warehouse orders, ABC prescription and OTC orders, secondary vendor orders, flu and dropship orders, and perform tote audits. Report any shortages or damaged product.
- Complete On-Shelf Availability (OSA) end-to-end process, including disposals, call-ins, vendor returns, and scan outs for all subscribed departments, including pharmacy.
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist-in-charge, complete pharmacy inventory activities such as recalls, vendor returns, non-controlled and damaged salvage returns, and facilitate excess inventory returns or interstore pharmacy transfers.
- Execute all pricing activities, including price changes, markdowns, and markdown deletes. Ensure accurate pricing with correct signage and timely completion of regulatory pricing tasks.
- Support front end and pharmacy ordering, monitor pharmacy manual orders to identify excess, and maintain consigned inventory.
- Ensure designated pull & quarantine items are updated and placed in the correct holding area.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts for basic departments, stockroom, overstock locations, and pharmacy smart counts under pharmacist supervision.
- Ensure inventory compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages and tobacco).
- Maintain inventory records, including receiving and posting all products, organizing files, and retaining invoices and receipts.
- Prepare for physical inventory and support activities on inventory day, including auditing third-party teams.
- Keep counters and shelves clean and well merchandised.
- Assist and coach store team on package delivery activities, including scanning packages, completing daily inventory functions, and package returns.
- In designated stores, when serving as the leader on duty, register all related sales on the point-of-sale system, handle scanning errors, price verifications, returns, refunds, cash drops, and provide change as requested.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Requirements
- Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
- "Achieving expectations" rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the previous 12 months (internal candidates only).
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multitask and manage execution.
- Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending strategies to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.

Pay
Salary Range: $17 - $20 / Hourly
