Position Summary
The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy, integrity, and optimization across warehouse operations. This role oversees inventory control processes, including cycle counting, variance resolution, replenishment planning, and inventory reporting. The Inventory Control Manager leads the inventory control team while partnering with warehouse, purchasing, and sales functions to maintain product availability and support operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and execute daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts and physical inventory audits; investigate and resolve inventory variances and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records within warehouse and inventory management systems; monitor and adjust inventory levels based on demand, forecasting, lead times, and sales trends.
- Oversee the receipt, inspection, and accurate recording of incoming materials; ensure inventory is properly labeled, organized, and stored in designated warehouse locations.
- Develop and maintain inventory control procedures to minimize overstock, obsolete inventory, stock shortages, and inventory shrinkage.
- Review inventory levels and purchasing needs; identify and recommend substitute or alternative products when inventory availability is limited.
- Monitor supplier performance related to inventory issues and communicate shipment discrepancies, quality concerns, or lead time challenges to appropriate stakeholders.
- Prepare and analyze inventory performance reports, including inventory accuracy, turnover, variance, and shrinkage metrics.
- Supervise, train, coach, and develop inventory control personnel; conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
- Collaborate with warehouse operations, shipping, receiving, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure inventory accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of inventory control, warehouse, or distribution experience, including one to two years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles, warehouse operations, and continuous improvement practices such as Lean or 5S.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, or other inventory management software.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background screening and drug testing.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive working relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a warehouse environment.
- Frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
- Regular exposure to warehouse conditions, including varying temperatures, dust, dirt, and moderate to high noise levels.
- May be required to safely operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
