About the role

The Invasive Cardiac Technologist I position at Advocate Health is responsible for operating and maintaining various medical equipment, collecting and preparing data for physicians, and assisting in diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all monitoring, recording, and related equipment used during procedures.
  • Collects and prepares pertinent data for use by physicians and staff.
  • Prepares, delivers, and picks up reusable items for re-sterilization.
  • Makes sure the defibrillator is operational and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary.
  • Assists in pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care.
  • Performs initial troubleshooting on equipment and conducts calibration, cleaning, and quality assurance measures.
  • Identifies cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation purposes.
  • Obtains and documents clinical data during procedures in the procedure log.
  • Prepares and operates imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems.
  • Positions patients and selects exposure factors for radiographic procedures.
  • Scrubs to assist physicians with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures.
  • Performs overdrive pacing (bloom operation).

Requirements

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must have completed an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire. Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field.
  • No prior experience required.

Skills

  • Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members.
  • Basic computer skills.

Pay

Compensation is based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training. Premium pay such as shift, on-call, and more is also provided. Incentive pay for select positions is available, and there is an opportunity for annual increases based on performance.

Schedule

The schedule for this position includes operating all necessary equipment, performing procedures, and assisting with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical tasks. The position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching above shoulders, pushing/pulling with 30 lbs. of force, performing a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present, and using foot pedals on carts or machines.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present, operate all equipment necessary to perform the job, and be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
