Intramural and Recreational Sports Intern

Job Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development and enhancement of the intramural sports program through league operations, participant engagement initiatives, and special events.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, mentor, and evaluate student officials.
  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for approximately 40 student employees, including officials, marketing and promotional staff.
  • Serve as a primary lead for assigned intramural sport leagues, tournaments, and special events.
  • Oversee facility preparation, event setup/breakdown, equipment management, and operational readiness for assigned intramural sports and events.
  • Assist with maintaining safe, organized, and game-ready intramural facilities and activity spaces.
  • Lead officials’ training sessions and assist with league communication and sport education initiatives.
  • Avoidance of repetitive tasks, assist with league scheduling, game operations, and participant communication.
  • Coordinate and promote intramural leagues, tournaments, special events, and engagement initiatives through print, digital, and social media marketing.
  • Create graphics, videos, and promotional materials for marketing and engagement initiatives.
  • Support administrative functions including scheduling, program assessment, and operational planning.
  • Affirmative action statement: Assist with enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, and risk management practices.
  • Provide excellent customer service while fostering a positive and inclusive recreational environment.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Education, Business, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of intramural sports rules, policies, and trends.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of safety and risk management concerns.
  • Experience with officiating, intramural sports, event management, or campus recreation preferred.
  • Experience with graphic/video editing software such as Canva, Photoshop, CapCut, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Familiarity with IMLeagues or other recreation management software preferred.
