2026-27 School Year – 171 days/year, 7.5 hours/day. This position will travel to two elementary buildings: Prairie View Elementary and Underwood Elementary.

Purpose Statement

The Interventionist provides support to the instructional program by assisting teachers and administration with prevention and intervention services for students with behavioral issues, coordinating the BIST model with at-risk youth, and proactively addressing students' needs. This position reports to the Principal and/or Director of Student Support Services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers in managing students whose behavior is out-of-control to maintain a calm school environment and ensure students' success.
  • Communicates with students, parents, teachers, administration, and other staff to express concerns, resolve issues, and develop plans for student success.
  • Facilitates prevention and intervention protocols for identified, at-risk students to address behavioral issues, alleviate isolation, identify support resources, enhance coping skills, and provide referrals.
  • Intervenes with chronic offenders to de-escalate crisis situations, process the situation, provide alternatives, and return the student to regular studies as quickly as possible.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic records (e.g., evaluations, reviews, intervention) to document activities in compliance with adopted policies and requirements.
  • Maintains a visible, accessible presence on campus at assigned locations to increase student awareness of program and support services.
  • Provides individual and group support to students and parents to prevent, address, and resolve behavioral issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external sources to provide information and/or direction as required.
  • Utilizes district-approved behavior management techniques (e.g., talking through problems, teaching coping skills, physical support) to assist students in fully participating in the educational setting.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and committees to convey and gather information required for job functions and program guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills include:
    • Organizational and leadership skills.
    • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and case management.
    • Group facilitation and communication skills.
    • Plan development.
  • Knowledge required to perform basic math, read manuals, write documents, present information, and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge includes:
    • BIST model and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) techniques.
    • Physical and emotional development of children and adolescents.
    • Mental health issues.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather and collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility to work independently with others in diverse circumstances, analyze data, and operate equipment. Problem-solving to analyze issues and create action plans. Specific abilities include:
    • Remaining calm in a crisis.
    • Adapting to changing work priorities.
    • Communicating with diverse groups in a non-judgmental manner.
    • Working flexible hours.
    • Displaying patience and a sense of humor.
    • Understanding verbal input and responding quickly.
    • Maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Job-related experience is required.
  • Targeted, job-related education with study in a relevant area.
  • Missouri Substitute or Teaching Certificate.
  • Criminal background clearance.

Work Environment

The job requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The position involves 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. The work is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard-free environment.
