Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of interventional radiology procedures, including but not limited to: Vascular interventions (angiography, angioplasty, embolization, thrombolysis), Non-vascular interventions (biopsies, drainages, ablations), Central venous access placement, Interventional oncology procedures (e.g., TACE, Y-90, cryoablation), Gastrointestinal and genitourinary interventions (e.g., nephrostomies, biliary drainage).
  • Provide pre-procedure evaluation and post-procedure follow-up, including clinical rounds on admitted patients and consultations and post op follow up in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Review imaging to determine optimal procedural planning and patient candidacy.
  • Consultation & Collaboration: Serve as a consultant to referring clinicians in the ED, critical care, surgery, oncology, and hospital medicine. Participate in multidisciplinary conferences (tumor boards, vascular meetings, etc.). Communicate findings, recommendations, and procedural results clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Patient Safety & Quality Assurance: Ensure the safe and appropriate use of radiation, contrast agents, and sedation. Adhere to hospital, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., ACR, Joint Commission). Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and protocol optimization. Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR and PACS.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Participate in a shared call rotation, providing after-hours interventional coverage as needed.
  • Support workflow efficiency across IR suites, procedure rooms, and inpatient consult services.
  • Collaborate with technologists, nurses, advanced practice providers, and support staff.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited Radiology residency program.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Interventional Radiology residency or fellowship.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Interventional Radiology (ABR or equivalent).
  • Unrestricted medical license (or eligibility for one).
  • Proficiency with a broad range of IR procedures in a hospital setting.
