About the role

$20K sign-on bonus available. Training provided for new graduate Radiologic Technologists. Experienced x-ray or special procedures techs are encouraged to apply.

The Interventional Technologist Level 1 collaborates during procedures with physicians and senior technical staff, performing diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures with concern for patient comfort and safety. Operates complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment, participates in IR procedures across various environments, and cross-trains to support sub-specialties within IR. Ensures proper patient demographics, documentation, and image storage. Assists physicians during procedures, including equipment setup, power injections, and advanced imaging techniques. Performs equipment calibration, troubleshooting, and daily QC checks. Conducts post-processing of images and ensures availability of previous imaging for procedures. Operates ancillary equipment, maintains aseptic conditions, prepares procedure trays, and supports specimen handling. Uses personal protective equipment and follows hospital guidelines for hazardous materials and isolation precautions. Scrubs in as a second operator to assist the primary physician. Completes all required documentation accurately and timely. Maintains inventory, stocks supplies, and prepares procedure areas. Supports transport of sterile and soiled supplies. Assists with RFID tagging and stocking of medical/surgical supplies. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

As a teaching hospital, the technologist may oversee and instruct personnel and students, precept new staff, and participate in research programs and quality improvement projects. Stays updated on imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment through continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Operate complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment.
• Participate in IR procedures within IR departments, peri-op environments, bedside, and elsewhere as needed.
• Cross-train and support sub-specialties within IR, including abdominal procedures, vascular procedures, vascular surgery, Neuro IR, neurosurgery, endoscopic interventions, and cardiac surgery.
• Ensure proper patient demographics and documentation for image storage.
• Position and immobilize patients, select proper imaging factors, and utilize fluoroscopy.
• Assist physicians during procedures, including table/c-arm positioning, power injection setup, and advanced imaging techniques.
• Calibrate and verify equipment operation; troubleshoot and report malfunctions.
• Perform post-processing of images, including reformatting, DYNA CT, and advanced software for overlay, needle-guidance, embo-guidance, and FUSION.
• Ensure availability of previous imaging for procedures.
• Operate ancillary equipment used in interventional procedures.
• Deliver patient care within the scope of license and training.
• Maintain aseptic conditions, prepare procedure trays, medications, and equipment.
• Handle and manage labs and specimens obtained during IR procedures.
• Use personal protective equipment and follow safety protocols for hazardous materials and isolation precautions.
• Scrub in as a second operator to assist the primary physician with catheter/wire management, contrast administration, and expediting cases.
• Complete all hospital and departmental documentation accurately and timely (e.g., EPIC, Nuance, Mobile Aspects, Visage PACS).
• Follow two-identifier patient identification process (Name, MRN, DOB).
• Maintain inventory tracking and replenishment within the patient’s medical record.
• Validate all documentation associated with procedures.
• Maintain procedure area, prepare equipment, and stock room supplies.
• Dispose of patient information appropriately and prepare procedure space for urgent cases.
• Support transport of sterile and soiled supplies between IR, soiled utility, and SPD.
• Assist with RFID tagging and stocking of medical/surgical supplies.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Precept new staff and instruct personnel and students.
• Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects.
• Stay updated on imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment through continuing education.
• Maintain professional working relations and communicate effectively across all role groups.

Qualifications

• Certificate/Diploma in Medical Imaging required.
• ARRT(R) certification required within 180 days of hire.
• Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist license required.
• BLS certification required within 90 days.
• Advanced Modality Licensure (VI/CV) preferred.

Pay

Pay Range: $50 - $50.25/hourly (Grade 5). Base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other factors. Additional compensation may include differentials, premiums, and bonuses.
