Interventional Pain Management Physician

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic pain conditions in outpatient setting.
  • Perform advanced interventional pain procedures, which may include: cervical and lumbar epidural steroid injections, facet joint interventions, radiofrequency ablation, selective nerve blocks, peripheral nerve stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug delivery, and other image-guided procedures.
  • Develop individualized, multimodal treatment plans integrating procedures, pharmacologic management, rehabilitation, and behavioral strategies.
  • Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with organizational opioid and toxicology policies and applicable regulations.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, including imaging and laboratory studies, to guide diagnosis and treatment.
  • Document all patient encounters, procedures, and follow-up care in the electronic health record in a timely, accurate manner to support quality care and billing.
  • Collaborate closely with other physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, behavioral health specialists, and nursing staff to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Supervise and provide clinical oversight for nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as required.
  • Participate in quality improvement, practice development, and, if desired, educational or research activities.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency (e.g., Anesthesiology, PM&R, Neurology) and an Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship (or equivalent subspecialty training).
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Pain Medicine (ABMS-recognized board).
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical license in Tennessee and DEA registration.
  • Proficiency with fluoroscopy and/or ultrasound-guided interventional pain procedures.
  • Strong clinical judgment, excellent procedural skills, and commitment to safe, compliant opioid and medication management.
  • Excellent communication skills and a patient-centered, team-oriented approach to care.
