About the Role

The Intervention Specialist is responsible for all aspects of Special Education services and compliance, and may provide additional intervention to students not identified for Special Education services as needed. The specialist must be knowledgeable and proactive in staying up to date on all laws pertaining to special education, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the same learning opportunities as non-disabled students. The role involves close collaboration with classroom teachers to meet student needs, teach IEP goals, and follow IEP provisions, while committing to the ongoing academic development and well-being of students and the overall success of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day work, safety, and welfare of students, including curriculum and assessment development, instruction, supervision, guidance, and student safety.
  • Commits to and implements the academic goals and philosophy of Oakmont Education, adhering to policies and guidelines set by the management company.
  • Leads the Response to Intervention (RTI) process and effectively communicates with teachers, parents, and administrators to facilitate the IEP process.
  • Maintains accurate and efficient records of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and student files, staying current on special education rules and regulations.
  • Creates and manages a supportive, purposeful, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Prepares instructional lesson plans aligned with state standards and implements the Instructional Framework with fidelity.
  • Teaches all assigned subjects, utilizing data and assessments to drive instruction and ensuring effective use of support staff.
  • Adapts and enriches the curriculum using multiple strategies, tools, and technology to actively engage students and apply learning to real-world problems.
  • Organizes and manages groups or individual students, differentiating instruction to reflect all abilities and using advanced classroom management techniques.
  • Provides specialized instruction to students with special needs in various settings (one-on-one, small-group, or inclusion) in accordance with IEPs.
  • Ensures high standards of achievement for all students and fosters an orderly, motivational, and aspirational school culture.
  • Completes written IEP progress reports at least as frequently as general education progress reports (minimum once quarterly).
  • Maintains accurate records, including grade books, report cards, lesson plans, attendance, and behavior/discipline records.
  • Monitors, assesses, and reports on children’s progress while maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of student records.
  • Collaborates with staff to improve student learning and achievement in the regular education classroom.
  • Develops positive working relationships with students, parents, and school staff, and actively participates in decision-making for school policies and programs.
  • Maintains order and discipline among students, safeguarding their health and safety.
  • Participates in ongoing, job-embedded professional development to support personal growth and student success.
  • Performs all other assigned job duties.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Must complete a BCI/FBI Background check and comply with Ohio Administrative Code Rule 3301-20-01.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Ohio Department of Education (ODE) License as an Intervention Specialist required.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in teaching assignment.
  • 1–2 years’ experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience with Evaluations Team Reports (ETRs), Intervention Assistance Teams (IATs), and writing IEPs preferred.

Working Conditions

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The employee may be required to work with students who present behavioral risks and may occasionally need to restrain students. The position may require attendance at meetings outside of regular work hours (e.g., early morning or after school). The role involves stress due to responsibilities such as ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, addressing individual student concerns, maintaining discipline, and managing effective communication with staff, students, and parents.

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, as well as significant fine finger dexterity.
