Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- Experience in multi-cultural or health care setting preferred
- Experience with interpretation or translation preferred
- Spanish language abilities and skills, written and verbal, required
- Ability to interpret and translate medical and healthcare terminology from English to the second language
- Ability to articulate and respond to cultural differences as related to healthcare issues
- Ability to work in a highly regulated environment with multiple demands
Responsibilities
- Identifies, assesses and responds to child/family interpretation needs; understands that this occurs within the broader healthcare context and within the familial context of developmental needs, psychosocial needs, cultural needs and spiritual needs
- Provides medical interpreting services and translation services for discharge instructions
- Communicates with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families
- Advocates for the language needs of families throughout the continuum of care
- Keeps accurate stats of all patient encounters
- Assists with triaging immediate interpreter needs and dispatching interpreters
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others
