Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
• Experience in multi-cultural or health care setting preferred
• Experience with interpretation or translation preferred
• Spanish language abilities and skills, written and verbal, required
• Ability to interpret and translate medical and healthcare terminology from English to the second language
• Ability to articulate and respond to cultural differences as related to healthcare issues
• Ability to work in a highly regulated environment with multiple demands

Responsibilities

• Identifies, assesses and responds to child/family interpretation needs; understands that this occurs within the broader healthcare context and within the familial context of developmental needs, psychosocial needs, cultural needs and spiritual needs
• Provides medical interpreting services and translation services for discharge instructions
• Communicates with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families
• Advocates for the language needs of families throughout the continuum of care
• Keeps accurate stats of all patient encounters
• Assists with triaging immediate interpreter needs and dispatching interpreters
• Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others
• Other job functions as assigned
