Interpreter, American Sign Language
Job Summary
Provide clear and accurate interpreting/translating services for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in all college-related activities, classes, programs, and events.
Required Qualifications
Current Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification, or current national equivalent certification required.
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an interpreter in a college, university setting, or Deaf Service Agency is desired but not required.
Supplemental Functions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Ensure student and class information is secured on a daily basis.
Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
Office environment. Little physical effort required.
Requirements

Interpreter Trainee Requirements (Salary Grade 205HR)
Minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0 in all Interpreting classes
Knowledge of Deaf Culture
Awareness of Interpreter Professional Code of Conduct
Fluency in spoken English

Computer and applicable software skills
Licenses and Certifications
BEI Basic certification or equivalent. Equivalent certifications: BEI Level I, NIC
BEI Level II certification or equivalent. Equivalent certifications: CI, CT, IC, IT
BEI Advanced certification or equivalent. Equivalent certifications: BEI Level III, NIC Advanced, CSC, IC/TC, CI/CT, RSC, CDI
BEI Level IV certification or equivalent. Equivalent certifications: MCSC, SCL
BEI Master certification or equivalent. Equivalent certifications: BEI Level V, NIC Master
Compensation
Salary Grades 212HR - 216HR
Hourly Rates: $32.00 - $46.00
