Internship, Red Team Security Engineer, Vehicle Software (Winter/Spring 2027)
This position is expected to start January or February 2027 and continue through winter/spring term (ending approximately April 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. International students: if your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying.
About The Team
Tesla’s “connected cars” are backed by a large infrastructure of systems that provide critical data to vehicles. The security of these systems is of the highest importance. Tesla’s Red Team members carry out attacks and security assessments to aid assurance that security has been properly implemented. As a Red Team Engineer Intern for Tesla, you will get an opportunity to attack Tesla products and services. We are targeting Red Team Engineers with experience in attacking a wide range of targets including network infrastructure, Windows/Linux/UNIX servers, web applications and embedded devices.
Responsibilities
- Breaking everything you touch and helping us fix it
- Conducting penetration tests against Tesla networks and services
- Performing security assessments on third-party services and software
- Collaborating with Engineers to develop secure services
- Auditing source code for security vulnerabilities
- Developing/implementing automated systems to help spot known security exposures
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a graduation date between 2026-2027
- Experience with secure architecture design
- Participation in Capture the Flag (CTF) events is ideal
- Security experience in one or more of: C, C++, PHP, Go, x86, ARM, CAN, cryptography, reverse engineering, wireless networks
- Strong understanding of common web vulnerabilities with SQLi, XSS, CSRF and exploit development
- Strong penetration testing experience
- Experience auditing code and features

Pay
Expected compensation: $48.00 - $53.00/hour + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
