Internship Program: Power Systems Engineer

About the role

The Electrical Engineering Services and Systems global service team is one of the largest and most experienced teams of power system professionals in the industry. As a Power Systems Engineer Intern, you will help provide solutions to customers’ power problems at every stage of the power system. The 12-week paid internship includes projects with measurable business impact, coaching, and mentorship from division leaders.

Responsibilities

• Provide applied engineering and technical consultation for multiple customers in power systems studies, power quality analysis, equipment startup, installation, maintenance, repair, and training.
• Support a wide portfolio of clients from project start through final on-site presentation and training.
• Interpret specifications and customer inquiries to design technical proposals and power system recommendations.
• Operate in an entrepreneurial environment with an emphasis on high-quality support, motivated lead times, and sustained relationships with Eaton’s sales team and end-users.
• Participate in a structured training and development curriculum including instructor-led sessions, virtual classrooms, eLearning, and on-the-job training with expert mentors.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in or have received a degree from a bachelor’s or master’s program in Electrical or Electrical/Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8.
• Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position, including CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, O-1, E-3, TN status, or I-485 job portability.
• Geographically flexible to relocate within the United States.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Qualifications

• Overall cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (preferred).
• Coursework in three-phase circuit analysis, power systems analysis, or electrical machines.
• Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, SKM, EasyPower, and/or ETAP.
• Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.

Position Criteria

• Location in one of five major U.S. regions (Central, Northeast, Southeast, Gulf, or West), typically in or near a major city.
• Transportation to and from the worksite and for incidental business travel is the responsibility of the intern.
• Strong analytical, computer, writing, and presentation skills.
• Physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, squatting, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally pushing/pulling greater than 50 pounds with assistance. Frequent climbing and reaching above shoulder level may be required.
• Up to 25% travel within a local region as determined by the Assignment Manager.
• Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with Eaton’s safety program, including role-applicable portions of the EESS Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) program and required annual re-certifications.
• The internship culminates with a formal presentation to organizational leaders.

Pay

The hourly salary for this role ranges from $20.77 to $25.96 per hour.
