Internship Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Summer 2027 Internship opportunities at Knight Piésold offer dynamic, real‑world engineering experience supporting mining and infrastructure projects. Interns work under experienced engineers, gaining mentorship, exposure to industry‑standard software, and the chance to contribute to projects across North America and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design of major earthwork projects, including tailings dams, heap leach facilities, and ancillary infrastructure.
• Support geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, seepage, and liquefaction evaluations.
• Prepare civil layouts and drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Help prepare design reports and project proposals.
• Support geotechnical aspects of permitting, reclamation, and closure activities.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Students entering junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
• Strong interest in developing engineering and technical skills in a consulting environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Strong time‑management skills, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
• Willingness to travel to project and field locations as needed.
• Interest in learning geotechnical engineering fundamentals relevant to mine facility design and construction.
• Interest in reading and understanding construction engineering plans and drawings.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with geotechnical engineering software (preferred).

Pay

Hourly pay range: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour (actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, and skill level).
