About the role
We are looking for a Developer Intern to join our team in Muscatine, Iowa during Summer 2027. HNI's summer internship program offers first-hand experience in your field of interest, focusing on projects that support the technology platforms, systems, and tools powering collaboration, productivity, and business operations across HNI.
The large, paid internship program includes exposure to leadership, professional development opportunities (Lunch and Learns, training, skill-building workshops), support through a mentor relationship, volunteering, and social events. Company-paid apartment-style housing may also be available, based on geographic need and current housing capacity.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain solutions that automate business processes and improve operational efficiency
- Enhance and modify existing applications, workflows, integrations, and business systems
- Support low-code and custom development initiatives across a variety of business functions
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements and identify technology solutions
- Assist with testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and implementation of system enhancements
- Create technical documentation and support end-user adoption of new functionality
- Participate in projects leveraging automation, data, AI, and emerging technologies to solve business challenges
Requirements
- Working toward a BA or MBA with a major in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field
- Junior-level coursework preferred
- Minimum 2.8 GPA
- Preference given to applicants with relevant technical coursework, certifications, internships, campus technology involvement, or experience developing technology solutions
- Interest in software development, automation, systems integration, and business technology solutions
- Experience with programming, scripting, or automation tools through coursework, projects, or internships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Self-starter with high personal motivation and desire to take initiative and ownership
- Not accepting candidates who require company sponsorship to legally work in the United States
