About the role
The International Tax Manager will lead complex international tax engagements from planning through delivery, serving as a key advisor to clients while providing technical leadership to the tax team. This individual will work closely with multinational clients, global member firms, external advisors, and IRS/state authorities to develop tax strategies, manage compliance, and identify opportunities to optimize clients' global tax positions.
Responsibilities
- Lead international tax engagements, including planning, compliance, consulting, and delivery.
- Develop and execute international tax planning and structuring strategies for multinational clients.
- Review complex federal, state, and international tax returns and related filings.
- Oversee international tax calculations and modeling, including GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, BEAT, and foreign tax credit optimization.
- Conduct complex international tax research and prepare technical memoranda outlining findings and recommendations.
- Coordinate with foreign affiliates, global member firms, and external advisors across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide technical guidance on complex international tax matters and emerging regulatory issues.
- Identify tax savings and planning opportunities and proactively communicate recommendations to clients.
- Lead IRS and international tax authority audits, including issue resolution and senior-level communications.
- Prepare and review tax returns for individuals, C-Corporations, S-Corporations, Partnerships, and other complex entities.
- Manage client deliverables, deadlines, extensions, and overall engagement workflow.
- Communicate directly with clients, Partners, management, IRS representatives, and state taxing authorities.
- Delegate work to staff, review deliverables, and provide technical guidance and career development.
- Assist with business development activities, including prospective client meetings, proposals, fee quotes, and evaluating client needs.
- Support employee training and contribute to the development of tax processes, software, and workflows.
- Lead and participate in special projects and consulting engagements as requested by Partners and clients.
Qualifications
- CPA or EA required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 7+ years of public accounting experience with exposure to individual, corporate, and partnership taxation.
- Strong knowledge of international tax concepts, compliance, and planning.
- Experience with multinational clients and complex tax structures strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, research, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines while providing high-quality client service.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to research and resolve complex tax issues.
