About the role

Montana State University’s Office of International Programs seeks a motivated, relationship-oriented, and globally minded professional to support international student recruitment, admissions processing, recruitment partnerships, and enrollment growth. The International Student Recruiter will represent MSU to prospective students, families, schools, recruitment partners, and international stakeholders while supporting students from inquiry through enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary liaison for international recruitment agents and partners
    Maintain and strengthen relationships through regular communication and training
    Coordinate agent contracts and renewals in collaboration with university procurement
    Support commission tracking and coordination with university Business Operations

  • Create and maintain automated communications plans for prospective, applicant, and admitted students through Reach database
    Update communications annually for accuracy and currency

  • Follow up with applicants after online submission to gather application documents (transcripts, English proficiency)
    Evaluate high school and college transcripts to make admission decisions and generate scholarships
    Process transfer credit evaluations for domestic and international credits

  • Engage prospective students and families via email, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions
    Represent MSU at international recruitment events and conferences
    Guide students through the admissions process from inquiry to enrollment
    Follow up with prospective students to support application completion and yield

  • Deliver virtual & orientation programming to support student transition, integration, and early success

  • Develop and implement regional recruitment plans aligned with institutional enrollment goals
    Monitor global recruitment market trends and use data (IIE, ICEF, etc.) to inform strategy
    Identify new recruitment markets, partnerships, and growth opportunities
    Track recruitment funnel performance and recommend improvements

  • Strategically partner and activate alumni networks to expand enrollment

  • Stay up to date on market trends and data (via resources like IIE, ICEF, etc.), using data-informed approach to prioritize recruitment efforts

  • Travel domestically and internationally to represent MSU at recruitment events
    Build relationships with students, schools, and partners in key markets
    Conduct post-travel follow-up and reporting

  • Issue initial I-20s for admitted students
    Process SEVIS transfers and updates
    Support semester registration and compliance processes in collaboration with ISSS

  • Collaborate with ISSS to support international student orientation
    Communicate pre-arrival expectations and next steps
    Coordinate with campus partners (e.g., Housing) to support student onboarding
    Conduct virtual orientation session to support student transition and integration

  • Manage Study Portals account for marketing purposes

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in admissions, recruitment, marketing, or international education
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to analyze data and apply insights to strategy
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally

Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Slate, Banner, Reach)
  • Experience in international student recruitment or marketing
  • Knowledge of global education systems and trends
  • Familiarity with F-1 visa regulations and SEVIS
  • Second language proficiency
  • Previous work experience in a global marketplace with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships
  • Knowledge of a relational database or similar operating system

  • Excellent written communication skills as well as exceptional public speaking skills in intercultural environments
  • Problem-solving skills and abilities to make appropriate recommendations to supervisor while working abroad without direct supervision
  • Strong computer skills including database, internet applications, and troubleshooting at a user level
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of world cultures and international market trends
  • Strong ability to build cooperative working relationships across cultural and organizational lines
  • In-depth understanding of curriculum and credential evaluation
  • Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with global and MSU stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills required to follow international graduate and undergraduate applications from submission through decision and assist students prior to enrolling
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Possession of relationship building skills across cultures
  • Excitement about MSU and a desire to continually learn
