As Faculty Physician, you will have the opportunity to combine clinical excellence with teaching, mentorship, and scholarly engagement—helping residents grow into compassionate, skilled, and thoughtful internists. Key Responsibilities In this highly impactful academic role, the Faculty Physician will: Provide direct supervision and precept residents in the outpatient clinic for four (4) half-day sessions per weekDeliver high-quality, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population in an ambulatory settingDiagnose and manage a wide range of medical conditions through comprehensive evaluation, testing, and clinical assessmentPrescribe and manage medications, therapies, and treatment plans to optimize patient outcomesEducate patients and families by clearly explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and care plansPerform procedures and interventions within scope of practice to support optimal patient careEnsure thorough and timely documentation to support continuity of care, compliance, and professional billing standardsCollaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across clinical settings to ensure coordinated, high-quality careServe as a clinical leader and role model, promoting professionalism, compassion, and lifelong learning Medical Education & Leadership In addition to clinical care, this role is central to the success of the residency program. The Faculty Physician will: Mentor, coach, and serve as a trusted advisor to Internal Medicine residentsLead formal and informal resident evaluations and provide meaningful feedback to support growthOversee and contribute to ambulatory didactic curriculum development and deliveryParticipate in scholarly activities alongside residents, fostering academic inquiry and research engagementAssist in developing, reviewing, and enhancing curriculum goals and program objectivesContribute to resident recruitment through interview and selection processesServe on the Clinical Competency Committee and participate in Graduate Medical Education initiativesEngage in faculty development activities to continuously strengthen teaching and clinical expertiseParticipate in hospital committees and institutional GME meetings, supporting program excellence and continuous improvement Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited institutionActive medical license in the State of Maryland (required)Board Certification in Internal Medicine (required)DEA and controlled substance registration (required)Clinical privileges (or eligibility) at a UMMS-affiliated acute care facilityDemonstrated commitment to continuing medical education and academic excellenceStrong clinical judgment, communication skills, and a passion for teaching and mentorship Why Join UM Capital Region?
