About the role

BC Cancer (BCC) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.

In this part-time position, you will participate in the clinical, educational and research activities of the Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care (PSMPC) team in your centre. This engaging role involves addressing the palliative care needs of ambulant cancer patients, integrated with oncological management, including those in the survivorship context.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate a coordinated approach and ensure continuity of palliative care support through effective communication and transfers back to community-level physicians, home care/palliative care services.
• Provide consultation and education to other BC Cancer care teams and community-based care providers as required.
• Support and engage in research and education interests in the area of palliative and supportive care.
• Enhance awareness and provide public and provider education on palliative care and symptom management for oncology patients.

Qualifications

• Fully licensed physician, meeting the requirements of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as those of the Medical Advisory Committee of the BC Cancer Agency and the local Hospital.
• Applicants should hold RCPSC certification in Palliative Medicine.

This position may also be combined with part-time palliative care work with Northern Health (pending FTE availability), which we can help facilitate.

Skills

• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
• Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
