About the role

The Internal Audit division within Freddie Mac is searching for curious, analytical, and collaborative individuals to join our organization. Freddie Mac offers a dynamic environment where interns gain exposure to real-world business challenges while building valuable technical and professional skills. As an Internal Audit Intern, you will work at the intersection of business, technology, data analytics, and risk management, helping the organization improve processes and strengthen controls through innovative approaches to auditing and analysis.

Our Impact

The Internal Audit division plays a meaningful role in Freddie Mac's approach to managing risk by providing independent, objective, and value-added assurance over risk management, governance, and internal controls. As the organization evolves, Internal Audit continues to leverage data analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation to enhance audit effectiveness, generate deeper insights, and drive efficiency across the company. Our team works closely with business and technology partners to identify risks, evaluate controls, and support informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Support high-impact audit engagements that evaluate key business processes, risks, controls, and strategic initiatives across Freddie Mac.
  • Utilize data analytics, AI tools, and automation techniques to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with audit professionals across multiple disciplines, including business, technology, quantitative risk, and operational audit teams.
  • Develop an understanding of data-rich business environments and how technology supports risk management and governance.
  • Contribute to the development of recommendations and insights that can be presented to management and stakeholders.
  • Participate in efforts to automate audit activities and enhance existing audit processes. Approximately 70% of the role's future focus is expected to involve automation and technology-enabled auditing.
  • Build relationships across the organization while learning about key business functions, associated risks, and internal controls.
  • Engage in continuous learning related to emerging technologies, AI applications, and data analytics within the audit profession.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Management, Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation date of December 2027 – May 2028.
  • Interest in data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, risk management, or auditing.
  • Experience with or exposure to data analysis tools such as Power BI, Python, SQL, or similar technologies is preferred.
  • Understanding of business processes, technology, and data-driven decision-making is a plus.

Pay

Interns are paid at a set, non-negotiable hourly rate of $32/hr. This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $54,000 - $82,000 for full-time roles.
