Intern, Water / Wastewater
About the role
Halff is seeking a Water/Wastewater Intern for its Civil Engineering team. The Intern will assist with drainage and stormwater analysis and design, support Water & Wastewater Utility projects including pipeline and facility modeling, planning, process, design, and construction, and perform water resources design, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, and other engineering tasks as needed. Halff leverages more than 65 years of experience in the water utilities industry, offers an interdisciplinary team that provides full services from land development to treatment facility design, and maintains a full toolbox of technology resources, including Biosolids Handling, Facility Design, Facility Master Plans, Facility Optimization, Instrumentation, Control and SCADA, Membrane Technologies, Odor Control, Process and Equipment Selection, Regulatory Compliance, and Treatment Facilities. The internship runs from June 7, 2027 to August 13, 2027. Interns are paid hourly and work full-time (40 hours/week), typically 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Halff does not provide housing for internships.
Responsibilities
- Design civil engineering projects under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer
- Help design drainage and stormwater analysis and design
- Support Water & Wastewater Utility projects including pipeline and facility modeling, planning, process, design, and construction
- Assist in the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for Water Resources projects
- Perform drafting CAD work
- Perform calculations and analysis for design projects
- Assist in the preparation of permit applications and other regulatory documents
- Coordinate with other team members, including surveyors, architects, and contractors
- Attend meetings with clients and regulatory agencies
Requirements
- Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or ABET‑accredited equivalent Engineering degree
- Experience with HEC‑RAS and HEC‑HMS is required
- Great communication skills
- Solid relationship and team‑building skills
- Self‑motivated and strong organization skills
