INTERN - VOLUNTEER - UNPAID

About the role

Interns or volunteers may work with Therapists that are responsible for conducting therapeutic services for patients. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Interviewing and developing the psychosocial history.
• Assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family.
• Developing appropriate treatment objectives and monthly treatment summaries.
• Acting as the patients’ and families’ primary contact during the patient’s stay at the facility, as well as their advocate with the treatment team.
• Serving as liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team and family.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Enrolled in a Master’s Degree program from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or other related fields.

Skills

• Good verbal and written communication skills in order to document assessments, treatment planning and interventions into a meaningful document.
• Ability to communicate with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team, managed care representatives, adults and patient families in a clear and concise manner.
• Knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy dynamics and techniques as related to cultural, social, economic, communication, and role expectations within family systems.
• Knowledge of clinical skills to assess treatment dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies within the overall treatment plan.

Physical Requirements

• Good visual acuity.
• Ability to lift up to 40lbs, and ability to push/pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Demonstrate ability to tolerate frequent position changes such as twisting, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and bending positions for complete shift.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for momentary to extended periods of time.

Other

• Position requires the ability to work productively and have the ability to ensure attention to detail in reviewing and producing documents.
• Must follow the security and confidentiality guidelines of the facility.

This internship is unpaid.
