About the role
As a Summer Engineering Intern at AES, you will gain hands‑on experience working alongside experienced professionals on projects that support the future of the electric grid and the energy transition. You’ll apply academic knowledge to real‑world challenges, develop technical and analytical skills, and collaborate with teams across engineering, operations, and business functions.
Qualifications
- Student pursuing a four‑year degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering.
- Academic standing of Sophomore status or higher preferred.
- Strong academic background with exceptional attention to detail.
- Organizational and team‑collaboration skills.
- Experience using design software such as PLS‑CADD or SolidWorks (preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Design high‑voltage transmission line facilities to support AES Ohio system improvements, reliability projects, and system load growth.
- Participate in field visits to verify topography, identify obstacles, and meet with construction crews to address engineering concerns and solicit design feedback.
- Update discrepancies between prints/schematics, databases, and system models.
- Collaborate with Substation Engineering, P&C Engineering, operations, construction, planning, and project management teams.
- Potentially shadow and learn from other departments throughout the internship.
- Complete additional assignments as determined by the supervisor.
