Intern School Psychologist
Desert Choice Schools, a certified K–12 private day school approved by the Arizona Department of Education, provides special education services for students with disabilities including Autism (A), Emotional Disability (ED), Mild Intellectual Disability (MIID), Moderate Intellectual Disability (MOID), Other Health Impaired (OHI), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), and Speech-Language Impairment (SLI).
About the role
The School Psychologist Intern will be part of a team supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs through counseling, clinical case management, therapeutic interventions, de-escalation, and pre- and post-crisis interventions. This position works within a day school program for students with intensive behavioral needs, where each classroom is led by a teacher and supported by behavior technicians.
Responsibilities
- Assist in special education case management under supervision of a NCSP
- Contribute to IEP and MET input and attend meetings
- Develop, collaborate on, and implement student interventions
- Provide counseling per students’ IEPs
- Deliver parent training and assist families in accessing outside resources
- Maintain appropriate documentation and record-keeping
Requirements
- Must be actively enrolled in a School Psychology Graduate Program, entering the internship year of program completion
- Master’s Degree en route to completion of a School Psychology terminal degree
- Presently eligible to work in the United States
Physical requirements
- Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, and grasp for extended periods
