About the role
The Intern, Research works under the direction of a credentialed Principal Investigator at Hackensack Meridian Health, primarily supporting an IRB-approved cancer-care research project led by a physician mentor. The role provides hands-on experience while assisting with daily operations and gaining laboratory knowledge.
The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI), established by Hackensack Meridian Health, is an academic basic and translational research enterprise focused on improving patient outcomes in cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and other conditions. The CDI has grown to include 39 labs, over 200 scientists, and is supported by 78 NIH and DoD grants, along with 87 additional grants and contracts. Key areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics, biomarker development, rheumatology, and pharmacology.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, collects, and analyzes data.
- Assists with report and manuscript writing.
- Participates in discussions, clinical activities, and meetings as directed.
- Supports Department team members with daily operations and varied assignments.
- Works on multiple projects while developing a working knowledge of laboratory functions.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student with a minimum of 2 years of college completed and a 3.0+ GPA.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently or in a team and manage multiple deadline-driven tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education in human subject research and Good Clinical Practice (CITI training and certification upon acceptance).
Pay
Flat rate of $18.75 per hour.
