Intern Position - Visual Communications

About the Role

The VisCom Intern provides support for the daily activities of the local Visual Communications Department facilities. This position participates in various tasks, including graphic design, photography, equipment maintenance, and technical support for students, adjuncts, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in checking in and out equipment.
• Maintain and repair photographic equipment as needed.
• Create graphic design materials (e.g., posters) and photography upon request.
• Seek technical assistance from suppliers and obtain quotations for external equipment repairs.
• Enforce safety procedures and ensure equipment security.
• Provide suggestions for improving print lab and studio operations.
• Support the gallery team with exhibition setup and teardown.
• Provide clerical assistance to the department as needed.
• Assist in moving equipment as assigned.
• Deliver technical and user support in a positive, cooperative, and professional manner.

Requirements

• Knowledge and ability in graphic design and photography.
• Familiarity with studio operations, professional printing, and equipment maintenance.
• Good customer service and organizational skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with current hardware and software technology.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with peers and superiors.
• Discretion and confidentiality with sensitive data and administrative access.
• Dependability and ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
• Physical capability to climb ladders and lift up to 30 lbs. repeatedly.

Occasional night or weekend hours may be required for department events (e.g., Gallery Shows, Comic-Con). Selected candidates will undergo a background check, including a criminal history check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working toward a TC, Associate’s Degree, or higher.
