About the Role

The Juvenile Justice Specialist Intern assists in the positive rehabilitation and development of youth in custody, promoting community safety and successful reintegration.

Responsibilities

  • Model appropriate behavior, facilitate communication, and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Supervise youth according to agency rules, monitor progress, and participate in creating and implementing individualized service plans.
  • Provide support through group programs, reinforcement of positive interactions, and conflict de-escalation.
  • Assist with transportation, observe behavior, and intervene when necessary.
  • Administer medications, conduct safety inspections, and facilitate ongoing training for staff and interns.
  • Complete reports, coordinate with staff, and support youth with medical and behavioral needs.
  • Perform other duties aligned with promoting youth well-being and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a bachelor's degree or relevant experience in youth care.
  • Strong communication, patience, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to pass background and drug screenings, possess a valid driver’s license, and perform physical activities including restraint and intervention.
  • Must be over 21, complete required training, and meet physical and legal qualifications.
