About the Role
The Juvenile Justice Specialist Intern assists in the positive rehabilitation and development of youth in custody, promoting community safety and successful reintegration.
Responsibilities
- Model appropriate behavior, facilitate communication, and develop problem-solving skills.
- Supervise youth according to agency rules, monitor progress, and participate in creating and implementing individualized service plans.
- Provide support through group programs, reinforcement of positive interactions, and conflict de-escalation.
- Assist with transportation, observe behavior, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medications, conduct safety inspections, and facilitate ongoing training for staff and interns.
- Complete reports, coordinate with staff, and support youth with medical and behavioral needs.
- Perform other duties aligned with promoting youth well-being and safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with a bachelor's degree or relevant experience in youth care.
- Strong communication, patience, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to pass background and drug screenings, possess a valid driver’s license, and perform physical activities including restraint and intervention.
- Must be over 21, complete required training, and meet physical and legal qualifications.
