About the role

Join KBR’s space exploration team as we prepare to take astronauts back to the moon’s surface and beyond. The internship supports the ITAS Graphics Team on the IMOC III contract, working for the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) at Johnson Space Center in Houston. You will contribute to high‑visibility technical design and graphics projects that help define the future of human space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical design work for high‑level, high‑visibility projects.
  • Interface with customers, develop, implement, and coordinate full‑cycle production plans for both print and electronic media.
  • Coordinate and design visual concepts for special projects.
  • Assume a coordinating role for large projects requiring multiple discipline levels.
  • Offer creative design solutions and provide comps, technical sketches (manual or electronic), and finished artwork for a variety of media.
  • Provide technical illustrations for Flight Operations Directorate documentation and products.
  • Communicate project progress and customer issues with management through scheduled meetings and weekly reports.
  • Perform mandatory quality and product assurance checks.
  • Maintain clear communication with department personnel throughout all phases of project support.
  • Provide photography for FOD portraits.
  • Maintain proficiency in document publishing systems, processes, and desktop applications to support electronic drawings and graphics.
  • Cut mattes and display boards using a matte cutting machine, saw, and art knives.
  • Operate large and small laminator equipment.
  • Handle and manipulate graphic art objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Hang and mount products in conference rooms, halls, or other designated areas.
  • Provide fabrication support/development within limits to pooled ITAS services.
  • Write and maintain updated work/training instructions for graphic processes and products.
  • Review own work and the work of others for accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Provide design concepts for web pages.
  • Update the Graphics Request Portal as required to track work.
  • Safely perform all tasks and communicate all activities, planned and completed.
  • Complete required training, submit weekly activity reports, and participate in ITAS department staff meetings.
  • Incorporate safety into daily work by participating in safety activities and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Review Total Safety Task Instructions (TSTIs) on equipment used in the graphics lab.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related graphics field, or a related art or media design degree.

Experience

  • Experience in graphics design, technical drawings, and illustrations.
  • Graphic products fabrication experience (required).
  • NASA experience (preferred).
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Adobe Creative Cloud, and MS Visio (preferred).
