Intern- Gas Engineering
PGL and NSG, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Gas Engineering Intern for May 2027 in Waukegan, Illinois and Chicago, Illinois. This full-time summer internship starts in May 2027.

Job Summary
Interns will provide engineering support to Gas Engineering staff and gas utility field personnel on gas design, construction, operating, and maintenance projects, engineering analyses, testing, and investigations. This role develops engineering skills, technical expertise, interpersonal and communication skills, and project management skills. Interns will assist staff and field project engineers and managers on a wide range of projects in natural gas transmission and distribution.
Responsibilities
- Assist with analyses and preparation of plans, designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and work procedures for gas transmission and distribution projects under the direction of an engineering mentor.
- Review road and public works project plans for conflicts with WEC Energy Group facilities and develop recommendations to resolve conflicts.
- Analyze commercial and industrial gas load requests and recommend metering and pressure regulating equipment.
- Utilize computer programs, databases, and spreadsheets to update computer models and perform network studies concerning gas system flow and capacity.
- Determine optimum design, costs, and economic justification of projects such as extensions of gas service to new customers or reinforcement of existing facilities.
- Build working knowledge of natural gas transmission and distribution engineering through exposure to facilities, construction projects, system maintenance, and projects in various stages of analysis, design, planning, and execution.
- Understand the application of project management to design and construction projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering with a graduation date after June 2027.
- Minimum GPA of 2.8.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Pay
The pay range for this position is $23.10 to $27.55 per hour, with a starting rate of $23.10. The range reflects the minimum and maximum at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Starting salary will be based on relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and other factors.
Paid company holidays are included.
