About the role

Join KCRA/KQCA TV, the Hearst Television station in Sacramento, as a Newsroom Intern. Gain hands-on experience in various departments including Assignment Desk Assist, TV News Production, Digital News Production, Photographers and Logistics, Sports Monitor, Weather Analyst, and Research.

Responsibilities

• Assist team members in gathering news and information by taking and placing telephone calls from reporters, sources, governments agencies, and the general public.
• Assist in research and other tasks.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Shadow reporters or anchors during live reports.
• Help research and write content for KCRA digital platforms including the KCRA app, KCRA.com, and various social media platforms.
• Assist with photo and video production for digital platforms when applicable.
• Help with social media efforts and email communication.
• Analyze weather charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, produce weather graphics, and relay important information to/from News, Assignment Desk, and Web.
• Research statistical data and practice forecast delivery in-studio.
• Aid in social media efforts and email communication.
• Accompany reporters on location shoots when needed.
• Pitch story ideas to the sports department.
• Log all sports events recorded by the Sports staff.
• Write scripts for daily sportscasts.
• Research team and player statistics.
• Assist with social media efforts and email communication.

Requirements

Must have strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred but not required.

Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Benefits

Interns will receive a stipend of $20.00 per hour.

Pay

$20.00 per hour.

Schedule

10 to 12 weeks.
