Intern/Co-Op - Estimating Department

About the role

At IMC Construction, Preconstruction / Estimating Interns support the planning and estimating efforts that lay the foundation for successful projects. Working alongside experienced estimators, preconstruction professionals, and operational leaders, interns gain hands‑on exposure to project budgeting, value engineering, procurement strategies, and construction technology in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Support estimating activities by shadowing IMC estimators, preparing bid packages, soliciting subcontractor and material supplier pricing, and analyzing bid proposals.
• Develop quantity take‑offs and cost models in partnership with the Estimating and VDC/BIM teams throughout design development and bidding.
• Assist in creating staging plans, logistics plans, and visual project studies using Revit and other digital tools.
• Help ensure project estimates are accurate, complete, and aligned with project requirements through bid analysis and procurement support.
• Attend preconstruction strategy meetings to observe how project teams develop estimating approaches, planning, risk management, and client expectations.
• Support the team in assembling preconstruction materials for presentations and project pursuits.
• Identify and qualify new material suppliers and subcontractors for inclusion in IMC bid management systems.
• Work closely with estimators, MEP estimators, and preconstruction leadership to learn all aspects of the preconstruction process.
• Gain exposure to IMC technology initiatives, including AR/VR applications, drones, Assemble, and other emerging construction technologies.
• Become familiar with industry software such as SmartBid, Revit, SketchUp, and other preconstruction tools.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in a college or university pursuing a construction‑related degree; architectural drafting focus preferred but not required.
• Strong interest in VDC and BIM.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self‑motivated with a desire to learn.
• Positive attitude and proactive approach.
