Job Summary

Gold Coast Transit District is seeking motivated and enthusiastic interns interested in gaining hands-on experience in public transportation, local government, and community service. Interns will have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that support GCTD's mission of connecting the community to opportunity through safe, reliable, and innovative transportation services.

Essential Functions

  • Aid staff with data collection, filing, general office support, and special projects
  • Use a computer or other software to complete tasks
  • Observe and gain exposure to public transportation systems
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and field activities
  • Provide administrative and organizational support as assigned
  • Collaborate with staff across multiple departments on team-based projects
  • Perform other related duties and special assignments as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • A college junior, senior OR a graduate of an accredited undergraduate or graduate program
  • Relevant coursework, demonstrating an interest and aptitude to work in a related field of study
  • A combination of education and work experience that meets the needs of the position
  • Pay will be based on years of college completed
  • College Junior or Senior – Degree in progress: $20/hr
  • Bachelor's Degree Complete: $21/hr
  • Graduate Student – Degree in progress: $22/hr
  • Master Degree Complete: $23/hr

Additional Qualifications

  • At least age 18
  • Working knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook
  • Good communication written and oral skills, including ability to receive feedback and follow instructions
  • Ability to maintain tact and professional demeanor in the workplace and with the public
  • Ability to work independently with multiple assignments
  • Ability to take initiative and produce completed staff work
  • Ability to maintain good attendance
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

Licenses and Other Requirements

About GCTD

Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD) is a special purpose transit district that provides public fixed-route and paratransit service in the cities of Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura and the unincorporated areas of Ventura County. With nearly 4 million passenger trips provided each year, GCTD is the largest public transportation operator in Ventura County. The fleet includes 56 buses and 24 paratransit vehicles all powered by clean natural gas supplied by an on-site CNG fueling station. In 2014 Gold Coast Transit District was named Small Agency of the Year by the California Transit Association.

Employment Benefits

  • In accordance with California Paid Sick Leave Law (AB 1522), a temporary or per diem employee shall accrue paid sick leave by working on or after January 1, 2015 for at least 30 days within a year and by satisfying a 90-day employment (probationary) period before a temporary or per diem employee can take sick leave.

Pre-Employment Process

  • The pre-employment process includes a job specific pre-employment physical and drug screening to be completed by an industrial health clinic; criminal background and references will also be checked.
  • All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful completion of this pre-employment process.

Selection Process

  • All applications will be evaluated on their related work experience and education qualifications.
  • GCTD will invite the most qualified candidates for an oral interview.
  • All applications must be filled out completely and must clearly show that the minimum requirements are met.
  • All statements made on the application are subject to investigation and verification.
