Intern Application Developer – Azure and Microsoft - 2027
About the role
As an IBM Consulting FutureNow Center Intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals to help solve real business and technology challenges for clients around the world. You'll gain hands-on experience, build in-demand technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects while learning in a collaborative, team-based environment. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares students for a potential full-time career with IBM Consulting upon graduation.
This role is aligned to the Azure & Microsoft application development practice, focused on supporting the development of enterprise applications, cloud solutions, AI-enabled services, automation, and business productivity technologies using Microsoft platforms.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across teams: Work with cross-functional teams to learn how requirements are understood, support the definition of technical solutions, and contribute to project delivery.
- Contribute to solution design & documentation: Assist with technical specifications and document design decisions under the guidance of experienced team members to support effective communication and collaboration.
- Contribute to high-quality software: Develop and improve code with guidance, and participate in code reviews and software quality practices to build your skills.
- Develop modern applications: Contribute to cloud-native and full-stack applications using Microsoft technologies such as Azure, .NET, C#, Power Platform, and related databases, APIs, and UI frameworks, while learning to consider user experience, performance, security, and quality.
Throughout your internship, you'll gain exposure to software engineering, cloud technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), DevOps, Agile, and enterprise application development, while working with experienced engineers, architects, and technology professionals on real client projects across multiple industries.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Interest in software development, application engineering, cloud technologies, Artificial Intelligence, automation, or digital transformation.
- Basic understanding of programming concepts and experience with at least one programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, C++, or similar technologies.
- Basic understanding of software development principles, object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, databases, APIs, and problem-solving concepts.
- Exposure to software development, web development, cloud technologies, databases, or technical problem-solving through coursework, academic projects, hackathons, student organizations, research, open-source contributions, or personal learning.
- Awareness of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, automation, cybersecurity, and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience gained through academic projects, internships, hackathons, student organizations, research, volunteer experiences, IBM SkillsBuild, certifications, or other practical learning opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to software development, cloud technologies, web applications, enterprise platforms, or modern application development through coursework, student projects, hackathons, research, open-source contributions, or internship experiences.
- Familiarity with Git, APIs, databases, Agile development, DevOps concepts, cloud platforms, user interface frameworks, or software engineering best practices.
- Interest in Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, automation, enterprise application development, consulting, and continuous learning.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates while supporting application modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
