Intermodal Rate Analyst
Key Responsibilities
- Cook up the full lifecycle of customer bids & RFP/RFQ responses, making sure they're submitted on time and accurately.
- Collaborate with internal pricing, sales, and operations teams to craft competitive pricing solutions for both new and existing customers.
- Analyze incumbent business performance, spotting profitability trends using internal and external tools, and oversee solutions suggested by all divisions.
- Prepare for new business opportunities through cost modeling, competitor benchmarking, and margin analysis, focusing on key players.
- Create customer-specific pricing strategies with data-driven insights and historical performance reviews, ready for pricing leadership to review.
- Use pricing databases, bid templates, and documentation to ensure easy access and accuracy.
- Assist supervisory personnel with tracking and reporting bid outcomes and pricing performance.
- Act as the primary liaison between account executives and internal divisions to ensure pricing aligns with freight characteristics, customer needs, market imbalances, and expected operating ratios.
- Complete additional rate-related projects, analyses, and other duties as directed by supervisory personnel.
- Be punctual and reliable, meeting deadlines and organizing multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Ability to operate a computer terminal and/or personal computer.
- Intermediate MS Excel skills required.
- Knowledge of D.O.T and I.C.C. requirements, preferably gained through practical experience.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform and organize several projects at once.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or equivalent experience preferred.
- One to two years transportation rate experience preferred.
- One to two years P.C. computer experience preferred, with an Excel emphasis preferred.
- Zero to six months customer service experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Seeing and hearing: read documents, computer screen, answer phones, communicate in person.
- Standing and walking: 75-100%.
- Climbing, stooping, squatting, and kneeling: 0-24%.
- Dexterity: utilize phone, type, and write: 75-100%.
- Lift in excess of 10 pounds: 0-24%.
