Intermediate Restoration Technician

About the role

The Water Damage Specialist at the intermediate level has four key objectives:

• Act as head of the water damage team handling residential and small commercial losses.
• Demonstrate knowledge and technical competence in IICRC’s standard work practices for water and mold damage.
• Operate, care for, and maintain water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment, and moisture detection instruments.
• Determine the extent, dimension, and distribution of moisture, and document water losses.

Intermediate specialists assist in developing basic-level technicians and support advanced technicians on complex or large-scale projects. In CAT service, they may simultaneously manage multiple water losses, including organizing and supervising temporary workers.

Responsibilities

• Receive instructions from the Supervisor and direct teams in proper PPE usage.
• Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of challenges.
• Provide field documentation, including photographic records, charts, and sketches for TPA projects.
• Perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections, ensuring cleanliness and operational readiness.
• Adhere to BELFOR’s standards for safeguarding client property.
• Demonstrate strong customer service principles and practices.
• Work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
• Travel periodically, including nights and weekends, as required.
• Accurately report time worked, equipment, and consumables used.
• Attend BELFOR-sponsored operations and required security training.
• Supervise and perform basic water damage tasks.
• Gather and upload photos to job files.
• Maintain equipment used in debris removal, containment/drying chambers, wall cavity drying, pump systems, carpet seam cutting, cushion removal, and baseboard removal.
• Identify Class 4 materials, measure moisture, and deploy effective drying/restoration techniques.
• Assess structural materials and contents for water damage, evaluating restoration vs. replacement costs.
• Create moisture maps using provided tools and knowledge.
• Supervise small crews on assigned tasks.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

• 12 months of experience in the Basic Level of Water Damage at BELFOR or equivalent industry experience.
• Direct participation in at least 25 water damage projects.
• Working knowledge of IICRC S500 (Water Damage Standard) and S520 (Mold Remediation Standard).
• Current IICRC WRT designation.
• Familiarity with BELFOR’s Water Damage Book.
• Proficiency in using moisture meters, IR cameras, and distinguishing affected vs. unaffected materials.
• Ability to sketch, read floor plans, complete Moisture Content Logs, Psychrometric Logs, and determine drying goals.
• Understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specs, and circuits.
• Mastery of HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter (or equivalent), and data recording.
• Experience with truck mount extraction systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated experience supervising small crews (up to 10 people) on residential, commercial, and industrial losses.
• Eligibility to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR’s policy.
• Sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
• English language literacy and fluency.

• Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
• Occasional assisted lifting of 41+ lbs (up to 50% of the time).
• Access and mobility in tight spaces.
• Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
• Ability to use mobile devices for data and time collection.
