Intermediate Restoration Technician

About the Role

The development of the Water Damage Specialist at the intermediate level has four objectives:

1. Act as head of the water damage team dealing with residential and small commercial losses.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and technical competence in IICRC's standard work practices on water and mold damage.
3. Show competence in the use, care, and maintenance of water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment, and moisture detection instruments.
4. Determine the extent, dimension, and distribution of moisture and document water losses.

Intermediaries provide assistance in developing basic-level technicians and support advanced technicians in complex or large-scale projects. In CAT service, they can simultaneously manage multiple water damage losses, including organizing and managing temporary workers. This position represents level 3 in the progressive itinerary of Water Damage.

Responsibilities

• Receive and follow instructions from the Supervisor.
• Direct teams in the use of appropriate PPE for each job.
• Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of challenges.
• Provide field documentation, photographic records, charts, and sketches for TPA projects.
• Perform daily inspections of vehicle safety, maintenance, and cleanliness.
• Pay attention to details and comply with BELFOR standards to safeguard others' property.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
• Work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
• Travel and work nights/weekends as required.
• Accurately report time worked and equipment/consumables used.
• Attend BELFOR-sponsored operations and safety training courses.

Requirements

• Supervise and perform Water Damage Basic tasks.
• Gather and upload pictures to job files.
• Maintain equipment for tasks related to debris removal, containment/drying chambers, wall cavity drying, pump systems, carpet seam cutting, cushion removal, and baseboard removal.
• Identify Class 4 material, take moisture measurements, and deploy effective drying/restoration techniques.
• Evaluate structural materials and contents for water damage and assess restoration vs. replacement costs.
• Create moisture maps using provided tools and knowledge.
• Supervise small crews on the above tasks.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard and IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
• Current IICRC WRT designation.
• Familiarity with BELFOR Water Damage Book.
• Proper use of meters, IR cameras, and understanding of affected vs. unaffected materials.
• Ability to sketch, read floor plans, complete Moisture Content and Psychrometric Logs, and determine drying goals.
• Understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specs, and circuits.
• Mastery of HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter, or equivalent, and data recording.
• Experience with truck-mount extraction systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience supervising small crews (up to 10 people) on residential/commercial/industrial losses.
• Eligibility to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR's vehicle policy.
• Sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
• English language literacy and fluency.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
• Occasional lifting from 41 lbs+, assisted (up to 50% of the time).
• Access and mobility in tight spaces.
• Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
• Ability to use mobile devices for data and time collection.

Experience

To qualify, you must have 12 months of previous experience in the Basic Level of Water Damage at BELFOR or equivalent industry experience, and have directly participated in at least 25 water damage projects.
