Interior Design Consultant
About the Role
Join our team at Haverty’s Furniture as an Interior Design Consultant or Design Graduate. Help create dynamic home décor designs and furnish happiness for our customers by offering in-home, in-store, and virtual consultations. You’ll work with customers and sales consultants to recommend furniture and accessories, create floor plans, and produce photo-realistic 3D renderings of Havertys furniture in customers’ homes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with customers and sales consultants to design beautiful rooms and spaces, recommending furniture and accessories for a completed look.
- Conduct in-home, in-store, and virtual consultations to understand customer needs, style, investment, and space.
- Create floor plans and photo-realistic 3D renderings of Havertys furniture and accessories in customers’ homes.
- Assist sales consultants in closing transactions by providing design expertise.
- Schedule or attend qualified home visits, coordinate with customers during visits, and review selections, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Provide feedback to sales consultants and branch managers after home visits and upon completion of floor plans and presentation boards.
- Assist in creating special-order SKUs and increasing sales reserves.
- Offer constructive feedback to customers to build sales and increase average tickets.
- Maintain knowledge of special sales, financing plans, delivery procedures, warranties, and other key product information.
- Reinforce customer selections to help close sales.
- Use My Sales Center to access and follow up with customers.
- Maintain knowledge of a broad range of furniture styles and products.
- Sustain consistent sales levels and meet other key metrics as required by management.
- Participate in sales training on the sales floor to understand the Havertys customer engagement process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in interior design or a related field; or 2 to 4 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ASID certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to drive and provide personal transportation to customer in-home appointments.
- Reliable transportation with verification of minimum state-required car insurance.
- Experience with Microsoft Office; prior use of Room Planner software is beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office components, internet software, and full-shot image software is preferred.
Pay
Earnings range from $55,000 to $100,000+ per year. In 2025, Havertys Interior Design Consultants earned an average of $84,000 nationally. The role features an uncapped commission structure with a guaranteed income feature.
Schedule
Required to work 5 days a week, including nights and weekends. Store hours are 10 am – 7 pm Monday – Saturday and 12 pm – 6 pm Sunday. Flexibility is required to meet customer schedules for home visits.
