Huitt-Zollars is growing and seeking entrepreneurial, like-minded Interior Designers/Interior Architects in both our Orlando and Los Angeles offices. Ideal candidates share a desire to lead interior design-focused project work and processes, achieving high-quality design, development, and documentation. We are looking for talented professionals with proven experience in themed entertainment, hospitality, and commercial projects, who understand creative and themed design development, transforming concepts and storylines into technically sound design packages and constructable solutions. Candidates should be passionate about guest-centric design, delivering exceptional guest experiences.

About the role

In this role, you will collaborate with office principals, architects, and designers while taking responsibility for interior-focused design work in partnership with the project manager and project architect. Your experience should demonstrate an understanding of design steps and workflows for entertainment and hospitality projects. This position offers significant responsibility to grow your career and contribute to building a positive office culture.

Responsibilities

  • With senior-level input, lead assignments through all project phases: conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Lead and support the development of design concepts, programming, space planning, and detailing.
  • Ensure design continuity across all project phases while aligning with project goals, budgets, codes, and client expectations.
  • Present design ideas clearly and effectively to clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee day-to-day design activities on assigned projects, coordinating closely with team members across disciplines and office locations.
  • Review and produce high-quality design and construction documents, including drawings, renderings, material boards, and specifications.
  • Participate in site visits, submittal reviews, and construction phase support to ensure adherence to design intent and quality standards.
  • Support the Project Manager in tracking schedules, deliverables, and project performance.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to elevate team performance and design excellence.
  • Support and nurture client relationships professionally while actively contributing to a positive office culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in design, documentation, and construction of interior architecture and/or architectural projects, with a strong focus on commercial entertainment and hospitality work.
  • Licensed Architect or Registered Interior Designer in Florida, or eligible for reciprocity.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, or Architecture from a NAAB-accredited program.
  • Proficiency in design and innovation tools, including Revit, AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Rhino, Adobe Suite, Office, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with interior design tools such as storyboards, mood boards, material selection, and imagery for exploration and communication of design ideas.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, life safety, ADA, materials, systems, detailing, and sustainable practices.
  • Knowledge of interior/architecture processes, phases of building design, and a desire for continued professional growth.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively, presenting design concepts and technical solutions confidently in client meetings.
  • Experience with scope, schedule, budget, and workplan objectives.

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Work is performed in a dynamic environment requiring adaptability to changing goals, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks.
